Cozy Getaway for Garden Fairies and Pixies

Camping Out Miniature Gardening Fairy GardensI have such great memories of camping in Wisconsin with my family. It always involved too many people cramped inside a camper, a bonfire, grilled food, and delicious Wisconsin beers. I was excited when I realized we were getting to the time of year, for people who live in the Midwest, to begin appreciating outdoor adventures, and that spring also meant miniature fairy gardening has already started. Two pursuits, which I have enjoyed in my lifetime.

The first time I went camping, I was a little overwhelmed with the planning that went into having a successful trip, and all the things that you need to bring to your campsite. That memory popped into my head when I was inspired to make a fairy garden that captured what camping is genuinely like in the Northwood's area. I wanted to make sure I started with a container that is one of a kind, something that will draw your eye immediately to my creation. I knew what to pick - a little red wagon! I remember my dad dragging us in our old wagon we grew up with and I thought it would be a fun way to celebrate those moments by using the red wagon as the first step in my newest miniature garden.

From there I wanted to add some hardscape since many campsites you rent nowadays have a gravel road next to a little patch of grass. At the campground and near your camper, this grassy area is where you build your campfire and place the grill. Of course, I wanted to select some miniature plants that looked like trees and bushes to surround the green space (This is optional since many campsites do not have large trees—but I love the ones that do.) Within my small green location, I added a tiny camper that is reminiscent of an old Airstream, with silver panels and windows and a checkered shade. Out front, I placed a bonfire pit with some cut logs for the garden fairies to sit on, and a silly pixie is relaxing on the Elfin Thyme miniature plant. I wanted this particular fairy garden to remind us all of simpler times full of love, laughter, and family. After all, that is the reason I love summer so much—it pulls me into nature, and kisses my skin with the sun. There is something about summer nights when you are camping too; they are almost dreamlike.

There are miniature accessories you could add to your cozy fairy garden, which will make it more personal to your story. If your camping mostly occurs in the Boundary Waters, you could place your miniature garden campsite along a river of blue decorative pebble hardscape and have a canoe resting on the water's edge. In addition, you could add more tents, miniature campers, or trailers if you wanted to include a large group of fairy friends. Now is the time to dig your hands into the dirt and get inspired, because summer is the opportunity to tend to every part of our outside space including all of your miniature fairy gardens.
