Follow the Stepping Stones to the Fairy House

Can you imagine the sound of fairy wings flapping delicately in the miniature garden breeze? Fairies love to fly, but they often touch down to play with friends, have a cup of tea, or return to the fairy houses to catch some Z's. Now, can you imagine the sound of tiny fairy feet stepping through the garden? There could be a whole world of strange noises, depending on what your miniature garden includes. Sticky mud, tangled vines, and poking woodchips are all challenges for fairies who are just trying to step from place to place.

You can quickly, easily, and stylishly solve the issue of fairy shoes being ruined in the muck. Just choose a few stepping stones, and you will be well on your way to a more organized and inviting fairy garden. There is no “perfect” way to add stepping stones along a walkway. In fact, there are countless styles and designs to choose from when planning a miniature garden.

Choosing Your Stepping Stones

Garden paths do not need to be generic. With a myriad of available hardscape, you can find the best fit for your particular garden. If you have a whimsical and feminine style, look for polystone or resin stones shaped like flowers. These come in a variety of colors and will make the fairies feel as though they are hopping from bloom to bloom, just like the garden fairies do when they fly! You can choose from colors and shapes befitting almost any season or color palette. The best part - there is no need to water these flowers!

Add even more personality to your garden with stepping stones shaped like animals! Owls, cats, or other fun friends will feel right at home with the other wildlife in the garden. There are all sorts of animal-themed stones out there, from the meditative shell shapes to adorable birds and bunnies.

For a rustic look, you could build your path with glossy, flat rocks, or even circles cut from wood. Natural stepping “stones” appear as though they have been in the miniature garden for a long, long time, adding to the mystery and history of your space. Try agates or glass pebbles for a pathway in a beach-themed miniature garden. Consider tiny wooden-looking planks leading to the front door of a log cabin fairy house in the woods.

Placing Your Stepping Stones

Once you have chosen just the right stones for your miniature garden, what do you do with them? The good news is that fairies are flexible. If you place stones far apart, they will enjoy hopping or flying from rock to rock. Nestled near each other layers of river rocks or pebbles become more of a path that fairies and other garden friends can follow to and fro. Add a few designer stones on top of the rock base to enhance the scheme.

A walkway might lead under an arch and up to a fairy house, or follow the edge of a bubbling brook to a secret pond. You can use stones to create pathways through otherwise messy areas like rows of vegetables in the garden, across a stream, or around a muddy spot. Once the walkway is in place, there are all sorts of new opportunities for path-side benches, fences, flowers, and other miniature accessories that will beautify your fairy garden.

No matter how you decide to style it, stepping stones can only add flair, fun, and organization to the miniature garden, as well as new ideas. The path has to lead somewhere, right? Let your imagination run (or walk) wild!
