Honoring the Labor Movement in the Fairy Garden

As I start to plan my next fairy garden, I am noticing a tendency to lean toward the newest trends in miniature accessories. These ideas are inspiring my next great creation. Sometimes you see a tiny object that lights the fire of creativity within yourself and can contribute to something amazing. It can be something as simple as an upcoming celebration, a fairy house, or a gift from a friend that can spark the beginning of your miniature garden. My newest favorite object is the cute a three-piece set of tools that are made of iron and have a rusty finish. The shovel, spade, and fork are the perfect miniature accessories to lean up against a fairy house or miniature tree to add the touch of a hard worker with years of getting their hands dirty. Since I was born and raised by a history fanatic, I tend to love using real-life historical events to inspire my garden.

When I saw these miniature accessories, I remembered that the next holiday coming up would be Labor Day; they seemed like the perfect tiny tools to add to a garden honoring this time in our history. Some celebrations are unique to individual countries. Wandering from place to place, you will find new and exciting traditions that capture the personality of the people who live there. In the United States, we have several such unique celebration days, including Independence Day, Memorial Day, and Labor Day. In September, the United States celebrates the American Labor Movement, where unions fought for better wages, reasonable hours, and safer working conditions.

To honor Labor Day, I am planting a fairy garden that captures the feeling of hard working laborers who were advocates for their rights. My plans are leaning towards a farm scene that will include a small fairy farmhouse, miniature plants, vegetable accessories such as corn and carrot picks, and farming equipment that would be an expression of this labor movement.

Many people do not realize the work and sacrifice that went into getting laws passed to protect laborers from dangerous working conditions. It is a time that deserves to be honored and celebrated, which is why we have a day in September just to relax and rest with our loved ones for an end-of-summer celebration. I plan to use my newest miniature fairy garden as a picnic table centerpiece during a barbecue I will host with my closest friends and family.
