Albuca ‘Frizzle Sizzle’ grows from an underground bulb and is a drought resistant member of the Hyacinth family. Fragrant yellow flowers appear in spring on flower spikes. The flowers have a light Vanilla/Olive fragrance, flowers in May/June and might re-blooms in fall
Grow in full sun and allow the soil to dry out between waterings. There are no pest or disease problems with ‘Frizzle Sizzle’ so it makes an ideal house plant that is unique and eye-catching.
The leaves of this drought tolerant bulb curl into little coils of green foliage.Grows well in a sunny windowsill, miniature or fairy garden, mixed succulent container, and even in the ground where it is hardy.
Excellent drainage is key to growing Albuca. Soil should become somewhat dry between waterings in containers then the leaves will actually remain curlier. Uses less water during summer dormancy. It will start growing again in fall and grows all winter.
Note to growers: Albuca ‘Frizzle Sizzle’ is a spring bloomer. When it sends up a flower stalk, it causes the tips of the leaves to brown. This is natural. If you don’t want this to happen, remove the flower stalks as soon as they start to grow to prevent leaf tip browning. During the summer the plant goes into dormancy; it looses all its leaves and stays dormant until the winter. The leaves then grow back from the bulb in winter.
