Native to central Spain, this alpine species of Thrift forms a very dense cushion of needle-like leaves. Soft pink flower balls are held just above the foliage. Especially attractive in a gravel scree garden or alpine trough where it can be seen close up. Site carefully, this is easily smothered by more vigorous neighbors. In regions with cool summer nights, this may repeat flower in late summer or fall. It is ideal for edging, border fronts, containers, or rock gardens. Provide this plant with full sun and a dry, well-drained soil, and it will bloom beautifully. Deer resistant, it attracts bees and butterflies.
