This plant prefers well-drained soil. Soil is well-drained when it allows water to drain through it at a moderate rate, without pooling. Allow the soil to become visibly dry before watering.
Red Stem Pilea has very small steel blue foliage which contrasts sharply with the mahogany red stems. It forms an excellent creeping mat. Very low growing spreader. Red Stem Pilea also sporadically blooms with small pale pink flower clusters.
