Description:

Many avid gardeners are aware of the larger version of Betony or Stachys. Yet this dwarf variety is rarely encountered in gardens. A charming low species that first forms a ground-hugging rosette of large and crinkly foliage. Then, in early summer it bears upright stems that hold short spikes of magenta-purple flowers. It is a very nice addition to the rock garden, miniature or fairy container garden. It can be used as a plant edging the border or planted on a rock wall. It likes average soils and regular moisture. Can easily be divided in spring. In southern climates it will need some shade. Dwarf Betony will grow to be only 2 inches tall at maturity extending to 8 inches tall with the flowers, with a spread of 12 inches.
