Before You Get Started
The mermaid and seashell-themed fairy gardens are very popular these days. Even if you can't find a container that looks like a shell like this one you can effectively use any kind of container. The theme is visually strong in itself. For a personal touch use whatever you might have in your house from a vacation, a trip to the beach or some cool colorful jewel stones.
Ingredients
- 12-14" container in the shape of a seashell
- Potting soil (or cactus soil)
- Miscellaneous succulents
- Haworthia coarctata
- Beach Sand - 1.5 lbs.
- Conch Fairy Condo
- Seashell Conch, Pink Murex, Succulent Planter
- Pelican on Pier
- Seashell Chair
- Mermaid Marina
- Tiny Starfish and Seashells
- Blue Crab
- Beach Glass Pebbles, Color Choices
Layout and Design
Fill up the container with soil and set out the pieces you are going to use. When you like the design, start planting.
Planting
Plant the largest plants first then add the fairy cottage. Use small succulent cuttings you might have access to here and there to fill in. Add the sand last so you don’t disturb the soil and get it mixed up. You can add a piece of plastic or fabric under the beach sand as well.
Adding Accessories
Now it is time for the mermaid and the other accessories to be added. That is the icing on the cake.
How to Take Care of Your Fairy Garden
This is a planter suited for a hot sunny spot. It doesn't require much watering and you can go away on vacation too without it drying up and dying. Fertilize once a month and when you water make sure to do it thoroughly and then wait till it dries out again.
